Installer notes
Budget power per closet, not per building
A single high-capacity switch is cheaper than two mid-size ones, but only if the cable runs reach. Past standard copper distance you need a second closet, an extender or fibre — plan the closet layout before the switch count.
Leave room for the devices nobody mentioned at bid
Access control, intercoms, speakers and access points land on the same switch more often than not. Spec at least 25 percent spare ports and spare watts so the add-on does not become a second truck roll.
Rack it where it can breathe
High-wattage PoE switches run hot. Give them clear airflow in the rack and avoid stacking them directly against recorders or VMS servers that are also pulling heat.
